Just wanted to let all the Knight know that a new book, Images of America: Oak Cliff, is now available. Along with two other authors,
I recently completed the project--a labor of love about the community where we all grew up and had so much fun. It is mainly a volume of vintage photographs,
covering the beginning of Oak Cliff right up to the present. Our school is represented in both photographs and text, although most of the high school focus
concerns Adamson and Sunset, the oldest institutions in the area. There are great photos of Alan Rowe as the Kimball Knight mascot--mounted on a live horse
(the way it used to be), the Knight mascot in 2002, Sid Longest and Sam Maddox clearing the high hurdles on the Sprague Field track, and the 1965 Troubadears.
There's a photo of Stevie Ray Vaughan and other photos from the ad section of various Excaliburs. A few other Knights are also
pictured in a Grace Lutheran Church confirmation class image.
You can get info about the book on OakCliff.com, on the normal online stores sites, or by contacting the other authors or me. We all have copies. It's also being sold around the community, with a concentration in the Bishop Arts District. It's at the Cedar Hill Barnes and Noble, and at Ben Franklin Pharmacy in Duncanville.
If any of you read the book, I'd love to know what you think, which photos are your favorites, and what captions you like the best. The current Oak Cliff Advocate Magazine has a feature story on the publication, complete with a slideshow of some of the books' photos.
