Wasn't the restaurant on Jefferson called DeSalvos Italian something or other? I remember seeing the sign out front which, among other italian dishes, mentioned spumoni. Well, to me, the name of that product sounded similar to something we had discussed in biology class and I was very reluctant to ask anyone what it was. :-0 I had dinner there a couple of times and the food was good but not outstanding. As I remember, my main concern was falling through the rather unstable wooden floors that were starting to show signs of rot and/or termite damage.
Regarding Goff's, does anyone remember the "JFK Night at the Movies" we had a few years back which started at Goff's on Lover's Lane? I thought the establishment as a whole had degenerated into a total mess. the food was just gawd awful and the beer was luke warm. Even old man Goff's surly demeanor when I asked for extra mustard on my burger wasn't up to the legendary status I'd hoped for. Another institution that's "a shadow of its former self".
